VISAS

Visas are required for travel to China.

Instructions for obtaining a Business (F) Visa may be found at http://www.china-embassy.org/eng/ywzn/lsyw/vpna/

Please plan ahead as you or a travel agent must physically go to either the Chinese Embassy or to one of the Consulate-General offices to apply for a visa. Same day processing is available for an extra $30.

You will need a letter of invitation from Beijing Normal University to obtain a visa. Please email Professor Shikui Dong at Beijing Normal University at sd294@cornell.edu to request a letter and use “Visa invitation letter” in the subject heading.

Location and Venue

The conference will be held in the Beijing Normal University Conference Center, Beijing, China.
Hotel arrangements have been made for conference participants at Jingshidasha, the hotel of Beijing Normal University. The hotel normally costs approximately 110 US $, but conference participants will pay approximately 80-85 US $.

Getting to the hotel
From Beijing Capital International Airport:

  • A taxi from the airport is about a 40-50 minute ride and will cost about ¥90 or $13 US. The taxi system is very well organized at the airport. Usually a long que but the line goes fast. Print out the business card of the Jingshi Hotel, show it to the taxi driver, and they will get you to the hotel.
  • A cheaper option is to take the shuttle bus, get off at the Beitaipingzhuang stop (about 1 hour), pass the cross-road and walk south for about 300 meters to reach the hotel and gate of Beijing Normal University

From Beijing Railway Station:

  • Take a taxi and stop at the gate of Beijing Normal University (30-40 minutes)
  • Take the subway line 2 and get off at the Jishuitan stop (20 minutes), transfer to bus 22, 38 or 47 and get off at the Beijingshifandaxue stop or Tieshizifeng stop (5 minutes)

From Beijing Western Railway Station:

  • Take a taxi and stop at the gate of Beijing Normal University (30-40 minutes)
  • Take bus 47 and get off at the Beijingshifandaxue stop or the Tieshizifeng stop (40-50 minutes)

Post-conference Tours

Beijing Watershed/Miyun Reservoir Tour (included in the cost of the conference)
On August 4, 2011, there will be a tour of the Miyun Reservoir, located in the areas surrounding Beijing. The cost of this tour is included in the conference registration fee and will provide transportation to and from the reservoir, a guided walk and a boxed lunch. The tour will involve walking/hiking, so interested participants should bring appropriate hiking shoes and clothing.

Three Gorges Dam
A 3-day tour to the Three Gorges Dam will begin after the end of the conference sessions on August 5, 2011. The cost of this tour is approximately $770 and is not included in the conference registration fee. The tour fee includes transportation, food and lodging (see below).


August 5: Fly from Beijing to Yichang, Hubei
August 6: Explore the Three Gorges Dam and surroundings
August 7: Fly from Yichang to Beijingn


The costs of this trip are as follows:

Roundtrip airfare from Beijing to Yichang: ~400 $US
Two nights stay at a 3 to 4 star hotel with breakfast: ~155 $US
Dinner and lunch: ~ 55 $US
Transportation: ~140 $US
